Sharpen Your Writing Skills

Improve your opportunities in life by learning to write well. Study writing fundamentals, skills and strategies and then put them to practice. Read and analyze texts on hot topics and use that analysis to create narrative, persuasive and expository essays. Learn the most useful ways to attack high school writing tasks and college admission essays. Develop the tools to edit your own work more effectively and gain a new understanding of the English language.

Who It’s For

This course is for incoming 9th to 12th graders who want to learn expository writing strategies. It's not a creative writing course, and it's not for those who need remedial writing help. All students should have a high level of English language proficiency.

Instructor

Jennifer Cuffman has a B.A. and M.A in English literature and is currently a Ph.D. candidate in the UW's Department of English, where she teaches in the Expository Writing Program. Jennifer loves helping her students begin to feel more comfortable and confident as writers.
