3-D Design & Modeling

Explore 3-D design from concept to product creation. Using the engineering design process, you’ll identify a problem and solve it through your own invention or innovation. Turn ideas into 3-D models using SketchUp and Tinkercad software and learn about the 3-D printing process.

Who It's For

This course is for incoming sixth to eighth graders. 

Instructors

John Parker is a STEM specialist and career and technical educator for Seattle Public Schools. He enjoys showing students the creative possibilities and applications of makerspace tools and technology. A longtime Summer Youth instructor, John won an Instructional Excellence Award from UW Continuum College in 2019. 

Brad Shigenaka is a middle school science curriculum specialist for Seattle Public Schools. He is an active maker hobbyist, always planning for his next summer project (this year: an augmented reality sandbox). He is a Leonore Annenberg Teaching Fellow with the Woodrow Wilson Foundation and received his B.A. in chemistry and master’s in teaching from the University of Washington.
