Meet the Staff

Leslie Rome – Director

Leslie RomeThe director of Summer Youth Programs since 2005, Leslie strives to tap the vast resources of the UW to create unique summer learning opportunities where children and teens can explore new interests, take risks and grow. She earned a master's in education degree with an emphasis in curriculum and instruction at Northeastern University, and has more than 20 years of experience helping nonprofits such as KCTS 9 and Seattle Children's Museum extend the reach of their resources to the K-12 community. Over the past decade, Leslie has helped UW Summer Youth grow to serve more than 1,700 students each year.

Chad Hammond – Program Administrator

Chad HammondChad is responsible for all the operational needs of Summer Youth Programs. He has a recreation management degree from Eastern Washington University, as well as a certification in early childhood education. Chad brings more than 15 years of youth development experience to his role. Before coming to the UW, he worked as director of programming and operations for i9 Sports Puget Sound and as branch director of a Boys & Girls Club in Spokane. An avid Husky fan, Chad has only missed a handful of UW home football games since 1998 and used to play sax in the Husky Marching Band.

Mary Schweikl – Program Administrator

Mary SchweiklMary helps keep registration and the day-to-day details of Summer Youth Programs running smoothly. She has a degree in business administration, and before joining the UW she owned her own business and held administrative roles in the Nooksack Valley and Ferndale school districts. Mary loves to make education fun and accessible, and in her spare time she assists at a local cooking school for parents and their children.

Bryant Holt – Program Coordinator

Bryan HoltBryant supports the technology needs of Summer Youth Programs and is in charge of the purchasing, organization and distribution of the program's many and varied supplies. He has an associate of science degree from Dixie State College in southern Utah, as well as six years of experience in logistics and warehouse management. Bryant is a voracious reader, aspiring writer and a local teriyaki aficionado.
