Book-Making Intensive: Design, Bind and Deconstruct
This two week course is designed to be a creative exploration for writers, readers, and book-loving artists. You will learn the art of bookbinding, including the tools and materials (paper, cloth, board, and adhesives) used to make several types of book, each progressing in difficulty. Beyond building the basic structure, students will design books to match a particular type of content, such as poetry chapbooks, sketchbooks, flipbooks, albums and more. As our final project we will deconstruct (carving, folding, gluing) a book to transform it into a three-dimensional work of art. Anticipate a possible visit to the unique UW special Book Arts Collections or the Henry Art Gallery.
