Computer Programming in Java I

Instructor: Jack Straub

This course is an introduction to computer science and coding in the popular Java programming language. It will focus on fundamental computer science concepts, control and data structures, and best practices for programming in Java. The student will learn fundamentals of programming that will be applicable to AP Computer Science, and to other languages, including Ruby, Python and C++. Computer science concepts taught in the course include:

  • Statements and variables
  • Objects
  • Expressions
  • Conditionals
  • For loops, and other control structures

No previous programming experience is required. Students should expect a class that moves at a fast pace. The class cannot be taken concurrently with Java II. Sections are not sequential. Multiple sections are offered to accommodate more students.
